Dude is right. But, if he would have let go sooner, he actually could have ended up eating the end of that pole. Ouch

  16. Kyle G Says:

My friend’s a vaulter, and he’s actually had that happen to him. except, instead of face planting, he was actually flung back further than the point he started running from (about 18 paces away)

funny stuff, and honestly not that rare.

  17. gray Says:

omg i want to do that

  18. Canucklehead Says:

    made my day. (well, night.)

  19. Saphchizzle Says:

It would have been much worse for him to let go. There are other videos where the vaulter lets go and ends up taking the stick recoil in the balls. It is a fundamental rule that you never let go if something like this goes wrong.

  20. Bee Says:

Not only would he have eaten that pole if he’d have let go, he could have cracked his skull open on the metal indent that the pole goes into. Pole vaulting can be very dangerous, my roommate is a former pole vaulter and luckily she never had an accident like that.

  34. Guest Says:

He didn't let go on purpose because if he did, the pole would have gone flying and probably would have hit someone. The alternative was to hold on and put himself in slight danger instead of putting the crowd in a lot of danger.
